Traditionally a busy month, with Koninginnedag en May 4 and Liberation Day, the postbode is working overtime to get the news out. We have a new DCA board with a number of fresh faces, but more on them in the next postbode. The dates are not in the right order (too much work and it keeps you on the ball). Where: “Cartier Square Drill Hall” 2 Queen Elisabeth Drive, Ottawa K1A 0K2 Parkeermogelijkheid in City Hall garage (eigen kosten) Business suit/uniform 3 The Mayflower mixed choir in St. Andrew’s – May 16th THE MAYFLOWER CHOIR The Dutch Christian Mixed Choir, which is a well-known choir in The Netherlands with almost 100 members, is on a concert tour through the USA and Canada.  The choir will spend two weeks in Canada, and will perform in many places, also in Ottawa.  St. Andrews Church will host them on May 16 and we can hopefully listen to them at the Tulip Festival in Commissioners Park on May 15, afternoon or evening. Wreath laying ceremony Alle Nederlanders in Ottawa en omgeving uitgenodigd: WREATH LAYING CEREMONY BY AMBASSADOR DE BEER The ambassador of the Kingdom of The Netherlands, Mr. de Beer cordially invites you to attend a Commemoration Ceremony in honour of 'Dutch Remembrance Day'(Dodenherdenking), together with the two only living Canadian holders of the Dutch 'Militaire Willemsorde’, and representatives of Ottawa's Dutch community. Friday May 4, 11:30 am at the National War Memorial (Ottawa), and afterwards at the lobby of Constitution Square Building (350 Albert Street). Het is voor het eerst dat een Nederlandse ambassadeur de Nederlandse Dodenherdenking op deze manier in Canada aandacht geeft. Verder is het bijzonder dat de twee Canadese veteranen met de militaire Willemsorde ook ‘acte de presence' zullen geven: Mr. Charles Forbers uit Quebec; Mr. Wilford Kirk reist vanuit Saskatchewan naar Ottawa. Alle DCA leden en mensen met een Nederlandse achtergrond zijn van harte uitgenodigd om aanwezig te zijn. Ambassadeur De Beer stelt ieders aanwezigheid zeer op prijs. Ria Koster 613-834-1690 6 Holocaust Remembrance Service During the months of April and May, the Royal Netherlands Embassy in Ottawa has organized a variety of events in cooperation with local organisations. To pay tribute to the millions of people who were brutally murdered this past century in the various genocides around the world, the Netherlands’ ambassador will attend a memorial church service, dedicated to remembering these horrific crimes against all people.  The focus will be on the Jewish Holocaust which took place during WWII, when more than six million people were killed. For the past 3 years, in demonstration of our solidarity with the Jewish people, the Ottawa Church of God has held a Holocaust Remembrance Service.  This service runs for an hour and a half and is attended by many people, amongst whom members of the police force, parliamentarians, religious officials from the Jewish and Christian faith, members of the Jewish community and ambassadors from several countries.  The service will be conducted by Bishop Jean W. Bruno of the Ottawa Church of God.
